Hi there.

My name's Pete. For more than 15 years, I've been helping businesses, charities, non-profits, political parties and governments to be heard, seen and be a force for good in the world.

Whether it's mobilising 7.2 million people to volunteer for His Majesty The King's Coronation in the UK, my strategic communications leadership promoting international aid programmes in more than 20 countries or executing impactful campaigns with dozens of deserving causes from local community groups to global non-profits...

...there's at least a decent chance you've seen my work.

I have a simple mission:
help good organisations to do great things, and be seen and heard in the process.

Pete is hands down the best communications professional I've ever worked with. For over a decade, he's been my go-to person whenever I need help with strategic communications, brand integrity or getting a message out there. I can't recommend his services strongly enough.

Pete is truly great at work he does. With the Big Help Out, he led a campaign that directly inspired millions to volunteer. He built a huge part of the campaign from the ground up, managing complex activations and groups of senior stakeholders across sectors. I highly recommend working with him.

The only thing you regret about working with Pete is not being able to work with him every day. No other marketing and comms professional I've met has such a brilliantly sharp mind for strategy - and unlike a lot of others I've worked with, he can then follow through with executing that strategy masterfully!

A few career highlights...

In March 2025, I was elected Deputy Chair of the Commonwealth Communicators Group in a competitive international ballot. The CCG is a voluntary coalition of more than two dozen organisations working on campaigns and shared strategic communications priorities in the 56 countries of the Commonwealth of Nations, chaired by the Commonwealth Secretariat.

Since summer 2024, I have dedicated the bulk of my time to global development and international aid projects. I provide strategic co-leadership for major UK Aid programmes focused on tackling antibiotic/antimicrobial resistance in Africa and Asia, working especially with the Commonwealth Pharmacists Association to amplify their impact.

In 2023, I was Campaigns Manager on The Big Help Out, the official volunteering campaign for His Majesty The King's Coronation. Working with a coalition of more than 400 charities and businesses, my mobilisation and media work helped mobilise some 7.2 million people to volunteer over the Coronation Bank Holiday weekend according to independent polling.

I've worked on dozens of campaigns with Labour candidates at every level of government in strategic or advisory roles from 2010 to 2024, most notably as Campaign Manager for the party's campaign in the three way marginal of Southport at the 2017 general election, where (with the same candidate from 2015) my strategy took Labour from 19% to 33% of the vote, its best result at the time since 1918 - paving the way for the party's eventual historic gain in 2024.

Through late 2024, I led Doit - the social enterprise behind the UK's largest volunteering platform - through a comprehensive brand modernisation and overhaul project, and worked closely with major Doit corporate partners like Mitie and Octopus to advise their teams on effective stakeholder communications for volunteering and CSR initiatives.

...and a selection of the amazing organisations or campaigns I've had the privilege of working for, on and with (in no particular order).

Everybody wants to be on TV...or do they?

It feels like a given that getting your CEO on the couch is a big winner, and it can be. But are there also times when aiming for the stars is the wrong approach?

Let's talk rates.

I've worked with clients of every size and scale imaginable, from major corporations to tiny local community groups in need. I do what I do because I care about making the world a better place, and I'm very privileged that the success I've had means I can focus on working with organisations I genuinely align with.

For all of my clients, I try to find a price point that respects the scale of their financial and human resourcing, whilst also charging a fair value for the work they're asking for. I welcome enquiries from prospective clients of every size and tailor my quotes to an organisation's capacity and the sophistication of their needs.

Usually, I charge my clients by the day or half-day, or for an end-to-end project with a monthly payment plan. If you only need a few hours of expert advice per month, I also offer cost-effective monthly retainer packages.

Every year, I take a limited amount of pro-bono or substantially discounted work, usually for small charities working on issues close to my heart. You can click here to see the kind of organisations I'm willing to consider bids for discount or pro-bono work from and complete my application form.

If you've heard enough and think I can help, you can use the form below to get in touch with me. The more detail you give me in your initial enquiry the easier it is for me to chat. Usually, the first thing I'll want to do is setup a video call with you to learn more.

I'm a firm believe in honesty in business. If I don't think that I'm the right person for you, I will help you find someone who is, and I have connections with a number of other freelancers who I can pass your request for a quote onto, or advise you on where you might find a suitable contractor to work with.

If you'd prefer to email, or you're looking for urgent help with a crisis or a PR need, you can email me directly at pete@petegaffney.co.uk.
